Completing Hacktoberfest 🎉
I completed the Hacktoberfest challenge over the weekend! I did a quick fix for the README file of the BUGS website after Joanna mentioned it was an open issue in our last meeting. I also submitted two PRs to one of our chosen projects, OpenStreetMap’s iD editor. The first was a simple addition of a JSON field which got merged within an hour (!!). The second involved styling map components so it was a little more complicated. I really appreciated that one of the lead developers replied quickly when I asked to work on the issue and advised me on where to start. I thought the problem was with the CSS at first, but after a bit of digging (thank you git grep
), I realized I needed to add some JavaScript to ensure elements were being tagged with the correct styling. Overall, I’m glad I got to learn about and start contributing to some cool open source projects this month! Also can’t wait for the shirt to come in the mail 😅
